Get hoisin and noodles

I have a favorite easy chicken recipe that uses Hoisin sauce.  Have you ever tasted the wonderful Asian Hoisin sauce?  Well, if you have tasted Peking Duck or Mu Shu Pork or spring rolls, you have probably tasted hoisin sauce.  The word “Hoisin” is derived from the Chinese word for “seafood” – but it does not contain any seafood.  Used primarily in Cantonese cooking, this sauce is thick and sweet and a bit pungent.

Did you know you can make your own Hoisin sauce to use with this easy chicken recipe?  Just mix together 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of either peanut butter or black bean paste, 1 tablespoon of either honey, molasses or brown sugar, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of sesame oil, 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper and 20 drops of any Chinese hot sauce.  That’s it.

For your easy chicken recipe, you will want four decent size boneless, skinless chicken breast halves for a total of about two pounds.  Have your oven preheating to 400 degrees.

Place the chicken in a baking dish and season to taste with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.  Now pour 3/4 cup of Hoisin sauce over the chicken.  This is the equivalent of an 8 ounce jar.  You want to flip your chicken around in the sauce so that the chicken is evenly coated with the Hoisin.  Bake the chicken until it is cooked through.  This should take about 20 minutes.

While the chicken is cooking, remove the florets from a nice, fresh head of broccoli. Steam the florets until just crisp tender and season with salt and pepper.

Is this an easy chicken recipe or what?  All that’s left to do is divide the chicken and broccoli among four plates and enjoy!

After you taste Hoisin, you may find yourself trying other recipes that use this great sauce.  It always seems to add a unique flavor that keeps most people coming back for more!
